‍‍‍TRAC Group Inc. is a private, medical rehabilitation organization that provides community, multi-disciplinary services from its head office, located in Ottawa, Ontario. Bilingual services are available wherever needed such as in homes, schools, workplaces, community settings, or can be conveniently accessed at the head office.

As a finance intern at TRAC Group, I was able to take on responsibilities from multiple disciplines including accounting, operations, and administration. This opportunity furthered my knowledge in the many faucets of business, enabling me to bring my experience to future careers.

Work Experience

Being the finance intern at TRAC Group Inc., I got the opportunity to take on many responsibilities and expand my skills. Although my main responsibility consisted of accounting tasks, I took on operational and administrative responsibilities as well. This experience has allowed me to put my accounting knowledge into practice, including general accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. I have already gained experience in cash-flow analyses, forecasting, and monthly reporting, just to list a few.‍‍‍

Some transferable skills that I have strengthened include:

• Strong attention to detail by completing bank account transactions
• Time management skills through extensive duties
• Written communication skills through email communication
• Knowledge in Microsoft office applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
• Gained knowledge in business operations, finances, human resources, and marketing by experiencing duties in many faucets of business

My Experience‍‍‍

I was also very fortunate to have been able to help‍‍‍ coordinate a company move and assisted in a company acquisition alongside some managers. It is uncommon to experience coordinating a company move, as companies do not expand their offices that often. Overall, this opportunity has allowed me to enhance my professional profile, as well as further stand out from other individuals. I have learned many new concepts, and have enhanced many transferable skills.

This job was part of the co-op program offered by the University of Ottawa. Participants must write a co-op report t‍‍‍o reflect on the many things learned from the placement, as well as objectives that were achieved.
